“Superfoot”
Bill “Superfoot” Wallace is an American legend in the Martial arts community. He is an actor, author and former professional kickboxer. Considered one of the first American superstars of kickboxing, he was the Professional Karate Association (PKA) World Full-Contact Champion, and the Middleweight Kickboxing Champion for six years, retiring with an undefeated 23-0-0 record. He is currently the International Ambassador for PKA Worldwide and president of the Superfoot Martial Arts Systems.
He began his martial arts career studying Judo in 1966 but was forced to discontinue this activity because of an injury he suffered to his right knee during practice. He then began to study Shōrin-ryū Karate in 1967 while serving in the U.S. Air Force. After entering the point fighting tournament scene and achieving success there, he switched to full-contact competition.
The Superfoot legend is born
The PKA promoted the sport of full-contact karate. Full-contact karate differed from kickboxing in that leg kicks were allowed in kickboxing and forbidden in the sport of full-contact karate.
Bill Wallace focused on kicking with his left leg because of the Judo-related injury to his right knee, using the right leg primarily as a base.
He was known for his fast left leg side kicks, and especially his left roundhouse and hook kicks, which were clocked at about 60 mph.
He would go on to win 23 consecutive professional fights between 1974 and 1980, becoming the Professional Karate Association middleweight world full-contact karate champion. He relinquished the crown in 1980, undefeated.
It was the PKA President, who coined the phrase "Superfoot" to describe Wallace after witnessing his first fight and the speed of his kicks!
Bill “Superfoot” Wallace has taught karate, judo, wrestling, and weightlifting at Memphis State University, is the author of a college textbook about karate, kinesiology and stretching. He is an actor and has played in movies with martial arts legend like Chuck Norris, most notably in the film “A Force of One”
Superfoot continues to teach seminars all across the United States and abroad and Strickland’s Martial Arts has had the privilege of both attending and hosting many of these seminars over the years. Many of the kicking and stretching methods taught by Superfoot are used in our classroom today.
